There’s a great program called “Help-a-Vet” that provides assistance to disabled veterans. The program helps needy vets pay for utilities during the winter months or purchase food.
Assistance is provided through an application process at the VA. The applications are forwarded to the Connecticut Disabled American Veterans (DAV) where the Board of Directors issues out assistance based on the availability of funds.
Every year the Connecticut Disabled American Veterans (DAV) hosts a golf tournament to raise money so that the program can help needy veterans in Connecticut.
At Alpha we think it is vitally important to support programs that provide much-needed support for our veterans. Alpha participated in the event by sponsoring a hole and team at the tournament.
The week before, Alpha also sponsored a booth at the annual Connecticut Stand Down where about 1,500 veterans all over the state gathered for free services, clothing and food. We were among 200 volunteers and 80 vendors at the event and visited with veterans about their VA benefits.
Note: All representation coordinated by Alpha is provided by our employees, the Advocates, who are accredited by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). No private organization that trains and employs accredited agents has been legally recognized by the VA for the purposes of preparation, presentation, and prosecution of claims. This work must be done by the Advocates themselves and not organizations.
